BUTTE - A streamlined team from Drummond High School claimed its second straight Montana State Championship Monday in the Fourth Annual F1 in Schools Super Regional Competition. The event was held in Butte at Highland College.
Rocky Mountain Racing, the team from Drummond, won four of the six sections in which they competed. While having the fastest car for the second year in a row, they also won Best Engineered Car, Innovation and Sponsorship and Marketing. The team's colors are gray, black and purple in to show support for the cause the team chose: Alzheimer's.
The state victory gives Drummond the right to compete at the STEM F1 in Schools National Championship June 13-16, 2018 in Austin, Texas.
"The kids did great," said Coach Darcy Schindler. "The experience and knowledge they gained last year at nationals, along with the training and advice they received this fall, was very helpful. The kids took that info along with guidance from Bridgette Perry and myself and took it to the next level.
"Now to improve even more in the next few months for nationals in June in Austin TX."
