MISSOULA – In every game they play, they play to win. But ultimately, the game itself is the reward for the Drummond Lady Trojans softball team.
In what one parent characterized as the ‘best game the team played all year’, Drummond fell to Loyola 9-3 in a game saw the locals play a solid game from start to finish.
The Rams were only able to manage a 3-0 lead going into the top of the third when the Lady Trojans scored their first run. Gracie Weaver lead off the frame getting hit by a pitch and advancing to third during the at bat of teammate Allie Parke. Parke grounded out to second but drove home Weaver to make the score 3-1.
Loyola expanded their lead to 9-1 through five innings, but the scrappy Lady Trojans were not done giving it their all. Hannah Bradshaw got a leadoff walk and scored on a double by Hailey Swarengin, who in turn scored later in the frame for the game’s final tally of 9-3.
Parke pitched her final game for the blue and white, striking out five and allowing just one walk.
Drummond collected four hits in the game, two by Parke (2-for-4), with Weaver (1-for-3) and Swarengin (1-2) each adding one.
