HELENA - The Granite Lady Prospectors had a full day of Tennis Friday, playing three team matches at the Helena Civic Center.
The doubles team of Jaden Comings and Sarah Goff swept their three matches on the day. They opened with a win over Townsend 6-3, 4-6 (10-5), before moving on to a clean sweep of Hartley in straight sets, 6-2, 6-4. They closed out play needing a tie-breaker to beat Chinook in a tight match, 6-4, 5-7 (10-4).
Brooke Rouse had the most successful day in singles where played in the No. 2 spot. She dropped her opening match to her Townsend opponent 6-4, 6-2 before rallying to beat Hartley (3-6, 6-4 (10-6)) and Chinook (5-7, 6-2 (10-4)).
Sierra Metesh played No. 1 singles and Makayla Pederson No. 3, with the former struggling in losing three matches while the latter was 1-2. Maddie Brabender played No. 4 singles in two of the team matches, losing her opener to Townsend before winning and set to eight against Hartley, 8-6.
"It was a long day of tennis after having a first part of the season that was full of starts and stops due to weather," said Granite Coach Meredith McDonald. "Some of my girls were a little off the first match (which is to be somewhat expected as 4 out of the 6 were gone on the east coast trip for school), but gained some momentum in the second and third matches.
"They all played extremely well and I'm so proud of each one. The weather was fabulous but warm. This is a great precursor to next weekend's Best of the West tournament in Missoula and Divisionals."
